Cleveland Sleep Dentistry is dedicated to treating patients who snore or have sleep apnea. We are acutely aware that these conditions can cause severe medical problems and work closely with numerous physicians and therapists to achieve the highest level of care.

Dr. Pecenka and Dr. Herald have been treating sleep disturbances, related dental and medical problems with oral appliance therapy since 1982.

We have been on the cutting edge of appliance development and have lectured nationally and internationally on sleep-related pain and neuromuscular dysfunction.

We use intra-oral appliances that are professionally made, periodically monitored, and easily adjusted to achieve physiologic changes to improve your quality of sleep. Oral appliances are recognized as a viable treatment option for snoring and mild-to-moderate sleep apnea for those patients intolerant to CPAP therapy.
Sleep Appliances
SomnoDent® MAS
Dentist ClevelandOur patients find that the SomnoDent sleep apnea appliance is comfortable and easy to wear. The two-piece design, allows patients to speak, yawn and drink. We like the appliance as it allows for very fine adjustments and doesn’t limit tongue space resulting in a high effectiveness and comfort level.
Moses™ Appliance
Dentist ClevelandThe Moses™ appliance is one of the newest FDA cleared devices for snoring and sleep apnea. Dr. Herald continues to work closely with Dr. Moses, the inventor of The Moses to help make it the appliance it is today. What makes the device so effective, it stimulates protrusive tongue reflexes and open anterior design advances the tongue and enlarges the airway. This combined with mandibular advancement, it is one of the most effective appliance available. Two-part construction allows patients to talk, drink, open wide and close their lips, making this the most comfortable appliance available.
EMA
Dentist ClevelandDr. Pecenka has worked closely with Dr. Don Franz (an orthodontist) the creator of the EMA, and continues to successfully treat patients using it. The appliance is a simple, patient-friendly oral appliance created for non-invasive treatment of snoring and OSA. The EMA resembles and fits like a retainer and the flexibility of the elastic straps provides unsurpassed lateral movement and overall TMJ comfort. Additionally, because the straps offer varying degrees of elasticity, they allow for the jaw to move in all directions while moving the jaw forward into the desired position. This freedom of movement of the jaw significantly reduces the occurrence of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and pain associated with similar appliances currently on the market.
CPAP Alternative
There are several ways to treat snoring and sleep apnea. The most common is with a device called a CPAP machine. CPAP stands for continuous positive air pressure. It is usually applied through a tube to a mask that covers the nose. The air pressure that is generated splints the structures in the back of the throat, holding the airway open during sleep.
